On September 14, 2007, a "Recruitment Kick-Off" for MBA students preparing for careers in finance was hosted by The Terry MBA Finance & Investment Club at the Terry Executive Education Center in Atlanta. The day consisted of four panels covering Financial Services, Investment Banking & Asset Management, Corporate Finance, and Private Wealth Management & Investment Advisory.

MBA Team Wins Solvay Challenge in Atlanta

A team of five Terry MBA students, advised by marketing professor Bobby Friedmann, won the Third Solvay Challenge case competition in Atlanta. The team of Adrienne Hudson, Amy Luckie, Howard Berzack, Arundel Simpson and Irakli Akhvlediani beat case teams from Emory University and Georgia Tech to win the Nov. 16 competition.

The case involved the creation of a comprehensive business plan to introduce an anti-obesity drug into the U.S. market. This was the first time the Terry College participated in the case competition. Solvay is a multinational company based in Belgium, specializing in pharmaceuticals, chemicals, and plastics.


Terry Evening MBA Coming to Buckhead

Starting next fall, the Terry College of Business will offer its Evening MBA degree at two locations in Atlanta. The Evening MBA has been offered as a part-time program in Gwinnett County, near Lawrenceville, since 2000. And now the program will establish a second location at the college's Executive Education Center in Buckhead, with classes starting in August. Students interested in enrolling for fall may start the admissions process immediately.

Program Director Don Perry said the target enrollment at the Buckhead location will be as many as 50 students, and he expects a strong demand for seats in the inaugural class. The program in Gwinnett has grown steadily, with almost 250 students currently enrolled. "Establishing a second location in Buckhead will allow us to meet the needs of more of Atlanta's working professionals because of its closer proximity to where they live or work in Atlanta." Enterprising Students Meet Warren Buffett

Warren Buffet Trip

After earning admission to Terry's full-time MBA program, Sham Gad made it his personal goal to win an audience with legendary investor Warren Buffett for himself and his classmates. Gad found a fellow trip leader in Evening MBA student Jeff Cole, M.D., and the duo recruited more than 50 students -- evenly split between the two MBA programs -- to make the trip with them to meet the world's second richest man.

The payoff came Jan. 19-20 as they made a fast trek from Georgia to Nebraska and back for the chance to quiz Buffett about his investment philosophies and tour the Berkshire Hathaway headquarters in Omaha. Learn more »


UGA's Terry College of Business finishes in top three at National Black MBA Association case competition for third consecutive year

National Black MBA Association National Student Case Competition

For the third consecutive year, a team of Terry MBA students finished in the top three of the National Black MBA Association (NBMBAA) National Student Case Competition. Pictured above (from left) with MBA admissions director Anne Cooper, team members Kimberly Scott, Hakeem Rufai, Tiffane Thompson and Deirdra Glover won $9,000 in scholarship money. Rufai led this year's team after serving as the team alternate on last year's first-place team.

Out of a field of nearly 30 teams, six were chosen as finalists: Columbia University, Hampton University, Johns Hopkins University, New York University, University of Stellenbosch (South Africa) and the UGA team. This year's competition focused on the fate of an ailing minority-owned automotive parts supplier. The teams were judged on the feasibility of their recommendation, quality of their content analysis, the custom solutions they provided and their presentation styles. Learn more »
