Realizing the importance of a global approach to education, Terry is planning an optional overseas trip to Cuba or China in the 2006-2007 academic year that will expose Evening MBA students to international business practices and culture. The trips will be scheduled during the UGA spring break week (including weekends) and/or the break between spring and summer semesters. While subject to change, we expect the approximate cost of the trips to be $1,800 for Cuba and $3,000 for China and includes airfare, accommodations and most meals. Three hours of elective academic credit is earned for trip participation, however, tuition is not included in the cost of the trip and is paid separately at course registration.
A required team-building day we affectionately refer to as the Outdoor Adventure is an early highlight of the program. Associated with the MGMT 7010 leadership course, this daylong event sets the stage for getting to know your classmates in a fun and supportive environment. It was initiated in an effort to move away from the traditional competitive atmosphere of the MBA classroom and toward an atmosphere where teamwork, cooperation, and personal challenge are paramount. Taking advantage of the university ropes course in the Oconee Forest located on main campus in Athens, MBA students cooperate in low elements such as the "wild woozy" and "spider web" and high elements such as the "catwalk", "zip line" and "pamper pole." These challenging exercises test and develop the ability to trust, effectively communicate, take risks, and work toward common goals.
(3 credits)
| ACCT 7990-Financial Accounting Concepts of accounting, the basic structure of financial statements, the interpretation of corporate annual reports and the limitations of such reports. |
| ACCT 8140-Internal Use of Accounting Information Basic concepts and techniques applicable to the internal uses of accounting information. Emphasis is placed on planning and control applications but some attention is given to product costing issues. |
| ECON 8910-Business Microeconomics Develops the fundamental microeconomic concepts of scarcity, opportunity cost and marginal utility, along with standard models of the firm. These concepts and models are then used to shed light on the structure and performance of actual firms, with emphasis on problems faced by real-world managers. |
| FINA 8000-Financial Management Intensive analysis of financial decision-making in the firm, emphasizing both investment and financing decisions. Analytical tools of finance are introduced. The course focuses on valuation concepts, risk-return analysis, project valuation, capital structure and corporate financing. |
| LEGL 8000-Legal and Regulatory Environment of Business A foundation approach to the interrelationship of business and the ordering of society through law. Emphasizes why legal duties come to be placed on business and how managers appropriately respond to these duties. |
| MARK 8510-Marketing Management An analysis of the process by which customer demand structures marketing response. The positioning of product/service offerings toward building customer satisfaction and long-term relationships is examined by its component parts, so that marketing effort can be seen as the vehicle which delivers desired return on investment. |

Class activities are varied including experiential exercises, discussions, case analyses and collaborative learning. Activities focus on leadership skills such as self-awareness, stress management, decision-making, feedback, listening, power and influence, motivation, empowerment, building effective teams and self-leadership. |

| MIST 6090-Management Information Systems An introduction to information systems.
